Gago: Result Was More Important Than Style

The Argentinian midfielder recognised that Bernd Schuster's side did not produce much attractive play, but was still pleased with the win.

Raúl opened the scoring in the two minutes after Robinho had edged past Pablo Ibañez and Ruud van Nistelrooy volleyed home a second before the break to put the result beyond doubt.

"This victory is important because it reasserts our leadership," Gago said.

"Atlético attacked a lot, but we defended solidly. That was key to our victory.

"The important thing in games like this is to win regardless of how well you play."

Gago thinks that concentration is now the key to Madrid maintaining their good form and he hopes that the team can play more entertainingly in the weeks to come.

"We must take things slowly and play better in each game. We must maintain our seven-point lead," he concluded.
