Francesco Guidolin was left very disappointed after the 3-0 defeat his Palermo suffered on the pitch of Sampdoria.
"We couldn't have started the new year worse," he said. "We leave here with a bad defeat. Sampdoria were superior to us in everything, there is very little to salvage in our performance, both from a technical point of view and in the character we showed.
"I'm disappointed because I thought it would be a different match, considering how we've been working this last month, and the recent signals. We did none of the things that a team with ambitions needs to do.
"Let's hope it was a one off, but our disappointment is strong, it's the worst defeat I've experienced since I've been coach of Palermo, and I've been here a very long time."
The Rosanero are currently sitting in 6th place, which would be enough for a Uefa Cup spot, with 25 points after 18 matches.
