Zarate, who was one of the most promising youngsters to come out of Argentina when defending the colours of Velez Sarsfield, will play for Birmingham City for the next six months, on loan from his Qatari club.The news of his transfer to the Premier League club was confirmed by his older brother Sergio Zarate, who spoke directly to Radio La Red on Friday morning.
Zarate was the joint top scorer of the Argentine Apertura Championship in 2006, along with Rodrigo Palacio of Boca Juniors.
In June last year the youngster signed a two-year deal with Al-Saad for a massive $20 million, but he was unable to rediscover his form for the wealthy Qatari club.
The young Argentine helped Argentina win the Under-20 World Cup last year, scoring the winning goal in the final against the Czech Republic.
