Barça Win Lawsuit Against Le Monde

The paper and the journalist of the article, Stéphane Mandard, were unable to prove the allegations and the story said to be libellous against the club.

Barça president Joan Laporta made the announcement that the Blaugrana had won the case as he sought to clear the club's name.

After the piece appeared in Le Monde on December 7 and 8 in 2006, Barcelona denied all wrong-doing and have been working on their law suit ever since.

Le Monde claimed that the club had used drugs on the players in conjunction with Doctor Eufemiano Fuentes, who was at the centre of Operación Puerto case.

He was arrested, along with a number of others, in May 2006 after being accused of administering prohibited doping products to over 200 professional athletes.

Doctor Fuentes' clients included a number of tennis and football stars, but the media highlighted the world of cycling and the use of drugs.

In winning their case against the newspaper, Barça insisted that a retraction was printed and a story reversing all the accusations be included.
