The move is in doubt after Fulham's doctors declared that they were not satisfied with the condition of King's right knee - the joint the striker injured last season.
The injury had kept King on the sidelines for six months, and Fulham are wary of spending big money on a player whose knee may make him susceptible to a similar lay-off.
Should the deal collapse it would be a blow to manager Roy Hodgson, although he did at least complete the signing of central defender Brede Hangeland from FC Copenhagen.
Fulham will also be attending a work-permit hearing next week in the hope that another of their targets, United States international striker Eddie Johnson, will be cleared to join them.
According to The Gusrdisan, Hodgson has also made moves for Leon Andreasen, Werder Bremen's holding midfielder, and Guglielmo Stendardo, a defender with Lazio.
