Makaay: No Regrets At Leaving Bayern Feyenoord striker Roy Makaay has revealed he has no regrets over leaving Bayern in the summer for a return to hi

Makaay has continued to score to goals in the Dutch Eredivisie as he did during his time at Bayern with 11 goals already this season.

“I’ve often been asked recently if I regret leaving Bayern. A one word answer is enough- no” Makaay explained.

The Dutch forward admits he still follows Bayern’s progress and went to the Oktoberfest last year and met the new Bayern stars.

“Of course it would have been exciting to play in this new Bayern side alongside good players like Franck Ribéry.

“But after the signings of Miroslav Klose and Luca Toni, who have performed superbly so far, I would have only been third-choice. I didn’t want that, therefore I took up the offer from my homeland” he admitted.

Under trainer Bert van Marwijk, Makaay is a first-choice. “Roy is a phenomenon” he beamed. “I am completely satisfied with him.”

2007 was an eventful year for the 32 year old with his decision to leave Bayern, his move to Rotterdam, and his highly successful return to the Eredivisie. He is now looking to achieve his targets in 2008.

“We went into the season looking to qualify for the Champions League. Feyenoord celebrates its 100th anniversary in the summer, and a traditional club like this needs to be in Europe.

“Up till now it looks like we are going to achieve this goal” Makaay concluded.
