It seemed as though they would be facing another loss as Juventus completely dominated proceedings in the first half.
However after the break Sampdoria improved markedly and barely allowed their hosts a sniff of an opening.
“I am satisfied with the way my team played and we had some good chances, including hitting the post,” said Mazzarri, referring to Christian Maggio’s headed effort that thumped the woodwork just before half-time.
Marco Marchionni fired over an open goal and David Trezeguet hit the crossbar, but in truth the only serious effort Juve had on goal was when Trezeguet saw his effort superbly cleared off the line by Pietro Accardi.
“It was a difficult game, but aside from that messy move Juve never really had a shot on target,” concluded a delighted Mazzarri.
Sampdoria are up to sixth in the Serie A standings following today’s result.
