Parreira: England Manager Should Be English

Parreira, who has managed Brazil and Saudi Arabia at World Cups claims there is enough talent in this country, not to have had to resort to hiring Italian Fabio Capello.

"The foreign countries that I've worked with have not had the qualified coaches to take over for a big competition," he said.

"But the English school for producing coaches is a good system and I don't think the English national team need a foreign coach.

"I can't believe that in the first, second, third and fourth divisions you could not find somebody able to coach the national team. I've nothing against Sven-Goran Eriksson or Fabio Capello, whom I respect and are good coaches, but I think the national coach should be someone from England.

"Perhaps the press are too harsh and don't give enough credit to the local coaches. I cannot imagine Argentina or Brazil or even the Italian or German national teams ever having a foreign coach - especially Brazil. I just cannot imagine it and I don't think it will ever happen" he added.

The experienced coach also had words of advice for the incoming Italian trainer.

"When somebody goes from one country to another country to take a job as the national coach it is not only a question of knowing about football" Parreira explained.

"It is a question of learning the culture, the style, the history of the country's football. This is so important. You must read about and study the football culture and the big players in the country's history.

"You can't just come to a country and revolutionise everything. Any coach who comes to Brazil has to respect the ball-possession and the pace of the game there. You cannot change that.

"Whatever the style is, the English direct game or the German pressing game, you have to respect the school which has been there for a hundred years. You can't change that or adjust it to your philosophy."
