The teenage wonderkid made his much-awaited Milan debut against Napoli yesterday evening and justified just what all the pre-match hype was about, scoring a goal and putting in an electrifying performance during the 5-2 win at San Siro.
“There are some extraterrestrials in football and from what I saw yesterday at San Siro, Pato is certainly one of them,” said Ranieri.
“He played like a 30-year-old, with personality, and the headlines of all the newspapers today are just for him.”
Pato also received praise from Milan club captain Paolo Maldini. The 39-year-old legend played the first-half of yesterday’s match, and he admits that the Rossoneri have their hands on an extraordinary talent.
“You can always understand the talent of a footballer, however the personality of a player can only be seen during the match,” said Maldini.
“He passed this examination with distinction. There will be difficult moments ahead, however this is a football player with extraordinary ability.”
A final piece of praise came from Milan director Leonardo, who compared Pato to former Napoli and Brazil World Cup great Careca.
"He has a resemblance to Careca,” said the ex-midfielder. He has great promise - we are very satisfied".
