
“Next season I will play in a big club, that is decided with Catania,” said the attack-minded Peru defender, who was so instrumental in his side's shock Coppa Italia defeat of Milan on Wednesday.
“My goal in the Coppa Italia against Milan has given me more fame and I am happy. I am ready for the challenge of an important club.”
Bitter rivals Arsenal and Tottenham could very well be drawn in a bidding war against one another, but based on the latest comments of the 23-year-old's agent, they can consider themselves favourites against Vargas' confirmed Serie A suitors AC Milan, Fiorentina and Roma.
“Our objective is to join an English club,” said Carlos Delgado. “The kid is perfectly prepared for The Premier League.”
The £7.5m-rated left-back has been a real revelation since arriving in Italy from Argentinean outfit Colon in the summer of 2006. Catania have thus ruled out the possibility of him leaving in January already, in their bid to stave off the threat of a return to Serie B.
