Wolfsburg boss Felix Magath had been keeping tabs on the 24 year old for a number of months and has now finally secured the player's signature.
The Urawa Red Diamonds midfielder moves on a free transfer after signing a two-and-a-half-year deal worth an estimated €1.1million.
Speaking at a press conference, Hasebe confirmed he is excited at the prospect of playing abroad and is confident of making the grade in Germany.
"I'm very happy to have joined Wolfsburg. I want to contribute to the team as soon as possible" he told Sankei Sports.
"The standard of football here is higher than Japan. I will work hard and prove that I have the ability to be successful at this level."
