Baronio: We Are In A Relegation Scrap Lazio midfielder Roberto Baronio believes that the club must accept that they are involved in a battle against

The Biancocelesti fell to yet another defeat, their eighth of the campaign, at home to Genoa yesterday, and are currently languishing in 15th position, just four points above the relegation zone.

“It’s not an easy time,” Baronio admitted on Radio Kiss Kiss. “We started with some objectives and now they are very different.

“At the moment our only goal is to avoid the drop, even if we are technically equipped to do much better than that.

“The problem is that we are losing lots of home games and that cannot be allowed to happen.”

There are reports that Coach Delio Rossi could be sacked after he was involved in crisis talks with President Claudio Lotito in the aftermath of the match at the Stadio Olimpico.

It is a far cry from last season when Lazio finished third in Serie A and qualified for the Champions League. It is now looking likely that their only route back into Europe could be via the Coppa Italia.

“It could be a door to Europe, but we just need to hold things together even if we don’t qualify for the UEFA Cup,” Baronio said.

“Us players need a hand from the fans, even if they were justified to whistle us off the pitch at the end of the Genoa game.”

Lazio lead Napoli 2-1 going into their last 16 second leg match at San Paolo on Wednesday evening.
