300 Sporting Fans Protest At Poor Results Following their 1-1 draw with Academica de Coimbra, 300 Sporting fans waited by the team bus to protest rec

Sporting Lisbon’s recent results have been far from satisfactory. That's the opinion of their fans, who are incensed that the club is a massive 14 points behind league leaders Porto.

Following yet another poor result last night, 300 Sporting fans waited by the team bus to voice their concerns.

The fans' first focus of protest was club President Soares Franco, who, whilst passing nearby was subject to abuse, with fans demanding answers as to why the team has performed so poorly.
As the supporters waited for manager Paulo Bento and the Sporting players, they became increasingly volatile, with police having to enforce a safety zone around the team bus.

However, despite the fans being unable to get near the bus this did not stop them from hurling insults at the manager and players, with Portuguese sports daily Record quoting fans as chanting “Bento must resign”, “You are a disgrace”, “You are clowns that play football." The fans even found time to have a dig at their city rivals by chanting “You are just like Benfica” at their own team.

The players and coaching staff entered the team bus safely, and were given a police escort until reaching the motorway.

Paulo Bento and the Sporting players have been under immense pressure of late, with fans demanding to know why they are performing so badly, and demanding that results improve. With another poor result last night, pressure on manager Paulo Bento will only worsen, and there were several clearly visible banners asking for his resignation at the match in Coimbra last night.

The recent protests are the most visible sign yet that Sporting fans will not put up with recent performances for much longer.
