Cassano Set For Italy Recall? There are intensifying reports that Sampdoria star Antonio Cassano could earn a recall to the Italian national team for

The Azzurri are due to face their European counterparts in Zurich on February 6 in an important test in the build-up to Euro 2008.

Cassano has not played for Italy since the 3-1 defeat to France in Paris in September 2006, however his stunning recent form for Sampdoria is making him impossible to ignore.

Italy assistant boss Mario Bortolazzi watched Cassano produce another scintillating performance yesterday in the 3-0 win over Palermo at Marassi.

The 25-year-old scored one and created the other two, while he also went close with a brilliant bicycle kick.

"It was not a Cassano show," Cassano said modestly after the game.

"This was Sampdoria's best match of the season. The credit should go to all these players who run so much for me. We created a lot and gave away very little."

Tomorrow will be the first meeting of 2008 for the Azzurri technical staff, and high up on the agenda, according to the Corriere dello Sport, will be whether or not Cassano should be recalled to the Italy team.

Coach Roberto Donadoni is likely to travel to Turin this weekend to watch Cassano play against Euro 2008 squad-selection rival Alessandro Del Piero.
