Barbosa had been on loan at Academica de Coimbra since the beginning of last season, and his recent performances have warranted an early recall to the league leaders.
He scored two league goals this season and establishing himself as a key player for Academica.
The Portuguese winger was also recalled due to the departure of Porto winger Tarik Sektioui for the African Cup of Nations.
In return for the early recall of Helder Barbosa from loan, Porto have sent striker Edgar on loan to Academica for the rest of the season.
The Brazilian has struggled to secure playing time with the league leaders, and will be hoping to have a similar impact as the returning Barbosa had at Academica.
Barbosa was present at the training session this morning in Olival, Porto’s training centre, to the delight of fans present outside.
Porto face Desportivo das Aves in the Portuguese Cup at the weekend, and this fixture may give him an early opportunity to shine on his return to the club.
