Catania coach Silvio Baldini was disappointed after his team's 2-0 loss away to Serie A runners-up Roma, but still has faith for the future.
"Roma are a great team, we knew that," he said, "the best in Europe when they have possession of the ball, but we did not keep our heads down.
"We even came close to equalising through [Gennaro] Sardo and [Giuseppe] Mascara. We made a mistake when we conceded the penalty, and we paid a heavy price. It was difficult not to think about last year's result (when Catania lost 7-0), but at other times we were the usual Catania.
"But Roma aren't high up the table by chance, they showed they are strong and so I give them my compliments."
The coach also talked about defender Juan Vargas, who's reportedly a transfer target for many clubs, especially Roma: "Unfortunately Vargas did not play very well today, he was in the shadows.
"Normally he is always one of Catania's best players, with the attacking flair he displays on the left wing. It was not the usual Vargas. I hope we can help him, now that he's more in the spotlight.
"Until June he will stay with us, then he will leave for another club. Now he has to help us, because we helped him to get to where he is," Baldini concluded.
