Too Bad, But Staying Up Is More Important - Malesani

Empoli were defeated tonight in the second leg Coppa Italia knockout game away to Juventus, although it was by no means a disgraceful loss as they fought until the end and lost 5-3 after a spectacular match.

Still, the Tuscan team's coach Alberto Malesani was left with a sour taste in his mouth and could not hide his disappointment at the opportunity missed by his side.

"We played our best football after going down to ten men," he said. "We were not lucky, but this was not the important game for us. Staying up is more important.

"I'm satisfied with what I saw in attack. If the team plays well, we manage to score. But we have to be more careful in defence: we're on the right track, now I hope to recover all my players for the match against Livorno," Malesani concluded.
