Borowski: Bayern Move Not About Money Werder Bremen midfielder Tim Borowski has hit out at suggestions that his decision to join Bayern Munich at the

Borowski, whose contract with Werder was due to expire at the end of this season, has chosen to sign on a free transfer for rivals Bayern Munich, much to the anger of the Weserstadion faithful.

The German midfielder has spent his whole career at the club and many fans were disillusioned when news of his decision to leave the club for the Allianz Arena hit the media.

The 27-year-old has now spoken to the media for the first time since the move was announced in an attempt to clear his name with regards to his motivations for leaving Bremen.

"It's not a question of money, but of a new sporting challenge," he said, from Werder's winter training camp in Turkey.

"I made my decision early so that I could be open and honest about the whole situation. I didn't want to lie or be hypocritical, but I expect there will be some people who won't understand me."

Borowski has underlined that Jurgen Klinsmann's appointment had no bearing on his decision to join the club.

Klinsmann, of course, coached the German national team to a heroic third-place finish in the 2006 World Cup on home soil, of which Borowski was part.

Both player and manager will arrive at the end of the current season, but Borowski has insisted that he did not even know about Klinsmann's move at the time he reached an agreement with the 2001 Champions League winners.

"It is a positive for me, but I didn't know anything about it," he said, concerning Klinsmann's appointment.

Borowski also made a statement of loyalty and intent, which will probably serve as little consolation to Werder fans, when saying he is determined to fight in his final few months with the club in order to try and win the Bundesliga.

"I want to win a title with Werder - it's time we did that again," he said.
