Wenger Hopeful Of Flamini Stay

Defensive midfielder Mathieu Flamini has played his way back into the Arsenal first team this season.

The Frenchman had been expected to quit the Emirates for Birmingham in the summer, before deciding to tough it out under Wenger for another season.

Still, his current deal expires in the summer and Juventus were linked with a swoop for the 23-year-old earlier this month.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger shrugged off the uncertainty regarding Flamini’s future, hinting that the club confident of holding onto him.

"Mathieu is free to talk (to other clubs) but the talks with Arsenal are ongoing," Wenger told the club's official website.

"I am hopeful on it and I am not concerned."

Flamini’s form has helped the London club to mount a title challenge this term, with Flamini keeping the likes of Gilberto Silva out of the starting line-up.

Return To Form

Wenger is also confident that his charges can forget a dismal 1-1 home draw with Alex McLeish’s Birmingham at the weekend and return to top form quickly.

"I don't think it will affect the mentality of the players," he said.

"There are always one or two performances during a season when you are not at your best.

"In 22 games this season we have played well in 21 of them. Now we want to come back to what we really are."
